Amaya Bueno is a content creator focusing on renter-friendly updates anyone can make to create a cozy home with style. Many of her projects are also budget-friendly and don't require massive overhauls. See how she incorporated small changes, such as updating outlet covers and switch plates, to make a big difference!
Please give us some more details on being a content creator. How did you develop your brand, and what sets it apart from the rest?
It happened almost organically. We moved to Nashville a little over a year ago, and I started documenting how we were turning this apartment into our new home. Everything is on my Instagram channel, @AmayaBueno, and my blog, AmayaBueno.com. What sets me apart is that I live in a new build rental yet have a vintage/rustic style. It’s been fun and challenging to figure out ways to add my own style onto a very bland canvas while doing it in a renter-friendly way.
How did you choose the hardware featured in this project? What attracted you to Nostalgic Warehouse?
I was searching for brass accents I could use in my home and came across Nostalgic Warehouse. It was love at first sight with the New York collection in the Antique Brass finish, and I knew I wanted to have this hardware in my home. Switching out the switch plates and outlet covers was a simple and renter-friendly way to add vintage charm.
Will you use this hardware again in other projects/areas of your home? If so, why?
I am absolutely in love with how the covers changed the look of our apartment, so I will definitely be adding them to other areas in our home. The extra bonus is, when we finally buy our own house, we can take them with us to use in our new home!
What is your design style, and how do you incorporate those decorating decisions within your home?
My style is a combination of modern vintage and rustic charm. It isn’t easy to incorporate that style into a new build apartment. Still, I try to do this by adding specific textures and colors. I use a lot of wood and brass accents to add some of this charm.
Where do you find design inspiration?
I love following other content creators on Instagram and Youtube to get ideas. I am also inspired when I find the right piece, whether a furniture item or a rug.
When starting a project, how do you organize and plan for it?
I write absolutely everything down. I note what pieces I may need and how much it will cost. I also keep a mood board with pictures so I know the kind of style or vibe I want in a space.
What are some tips for readers who wish to make a transformation in their home?
It doesn’t have to be a HUGE project to make a difference. Especially in a rental where you may be limited, I found that even the most minor modifications can create a complete transformation. Changing things like your hardware or adding some renter-friendly wallpaper can create a completely new look for your home.
What is next?
My next big project is our office/guest bedroom. We’ve done a little makeover there before, but now that my husband and I both work from home, we need another desk. We’ll have to shift things around to make sure both desks fit, and of course, I can’t simply add a desk without some styling, so I plan to refresh it as well.
